About

I have always been interested in the little things that people do - how they fidget, what elicits a smile, frown or cry, how they connect with each other and interact with the world around them. In a way, it helps me connect with them - seeing what we have in common - our human nature.  I grew up in Baltimore and photography has been a lifelong interest.  After many years working as a physician and medical director while living in Maine, retirement now allows me to further explore and develop this interest.  I’ve studied photography in Portland, Boston and Paris and am a member of the Bakery Photo Collective.  My work is included in several private collections and the permanent collection at the University of New England.  I’ve had two solo exhibits at the Maine Jewish Museum and my work has been shown as part of group exhibits at Speedwell Gallery, the UNE Art Gallery, and the Maine Museum of Photographic Arts, all in Portland, Maine.

All of my images are candid shots.  There’s a moment when everything comes together, the light and composition, and of course the people.  I do my best to anticipate that moment, and then to capture it so it lives on.

Maine Sunday Telegram / Sunday, January 16, 2022 - Jorge S. Arango

"Were it not for the clothes people wear in Richard Wexler’s images of Paris, you might mistake his scenes, especially those of Montmartre, for something by Brassai or Eugene Atget.”

All of my photographs are created using Epson large-format printers and pigment ink.  They are printed on Moab Juniper Baryta Rag 305 paper and matted using archival-quality, acid-free materials.

Photographs are offered as signed, 12” x 12” or 16”x 16” prints in editions of 15 or 20.  Other sizes are available upon request.   They may be purchased with or without matts and frames.
